New Beginnings Afternoon 01.04.21 : Woodlands
Woodlands staff and residents embraced New Beginnings this afternoon and reflected upon the events of the last year. The afternoon commenced with a moving speech from Jo our Director of Care followed by inspiring words from Woodlands Home Manager Deb. and also Deputy Jay Jay.
Staff and residents alike enjoyed watching the little pupils of Tiny Tots Nursery sing ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ followed by a member of staffs’ granddaughter reciting a poem about a Rainbow. Everyone enjoyed entertainer Terry Owen singing and then we all united in song for ‘If We Hold On Together’ and ‘You’ve Got A Friend’. Every resident was simultaneously handed a beautiful yellow rose of remembrance and adjourned to the garden.
Just next to the edge of the courtyard patio Jo made a small speech and then she and Jay Jay planted a beautiful cherry tree of Remembrance. This tree will blossom every Spring on now and will be able to be seen and enjoyed from many of the rooms in the home as it grows and flourishes.
The final act was the release of white biodegradable balloons by the staff as they were given the opportunity to reflect privately upon their own experiences in the last year.
All the staff received a lovely gift from the Woodlands Management team in recognition for all their work and effort in the last year and then tea, coffee, wine and delicious cakes were enjoyed by all.
The afternoon was one of love, care, respect and dignity for our whole Woodlands family and a tender and fitting tribute to those no longer with us as well as acknowledging the amazing teamwork at Woodlands during the most challenging times ever during the pandemic.
