HILL HOUSE SUPER SUMMER SUN FOR THE MONTH OF JULY 2018

July heralded a host of special events and opened with the most glorious weather, with clear blue skies with plenty of sunshine. This enabled most of our normal activities to take place outdoors in the shaded courtyard area.

The period from 2nd July to 15th July was dominated by the knock out stages of the Football World Cup and Wimbledon tennis. It was all the talk on TV and within the home. Residents, staff and relatives all joined in with the football Sweep Stakes with much anticipation. When all was done and dusted Vicky came first and Grace 2nd.

The annual Horses Day was held on Tuesday 3rd July when two ponies Matilda and Baby Cake, were taken all around the home to meet the residents. This is always a popular event and this year was no exception. The residents enjoyed this experience very much.

We celebrated Wimbledon on Wednesday 11th July with strawberries and cream and the odd glass of Pimms served. The strawberries and cream went very quickly. Ana Maria entertained us with some little known facts about Wimbledon, dating back to the 19th century.

On the same day, in the evening, England were knocked out of the World Cup. Everyone was sorry about that but agreed that this valiant team performed better than any other since 1966.

On the morning of Friday 13th July a group went to the Badshot Lea garden centre to look at the plants and fish. Afterwards we headed off for a cup of coffee or cold drink.

The wonderful weather continued all through the week ending Friday 13th July and all the afternoon activities were held outside including the giant crossword on Thursday 12th July. Ice cream is now the order of every day and everyone is enjoying a lovely summer. Monday 16th July was the word search afternoon as usual. Unfortunately we were not as successful as we usually are, it must be all the hot weather and ice cream effecting us.

It didn’t bother us on Tuesday, however as we played dominoes indoors. On Wednesday 18th July we all enjoyed a hilarious afternoon playing skittles!

On Friday 20th July a group of residents went to the Emporium in Fleet for coffee together with a group from Woodlands.

In the afternoon we set off on our annual round the ‘World cruise’. This time we started in South Africa where we listened to African music, outside as usual, and many of the staff wore head cloths and joined in the dancing…it turned into doing the conga. I am not sure that that comes from Africa, but never mind everyone had a super time! Others watched on while drinking tea and eating cakes. These outdoor activities are very popular and we can only hope that it the weather lasts.

In the week beginning 23rd July we continued our ‘World cruise’ sailing to South America and Cuba, which was very interesting. On Wednesday 25th July we enjoyed an afternoon of South American music and dancing. Getting ready for docking in Cuba on Friday. The weather remained wonderful for cruising. On Friday 27th July we docked in Cuba and were entertained with beautiful dancing by two lovely young ladies, Mia and Tilly, from the Diamond Dance Centre.

In the evening of the Tuesday 31st a team from Hill House, Ana Maria, Mike, Josephine, Joy, and Stuart went to the charity quiz held at Farnham Mill. Everyone had good fun despite not winning the quiz. We all enjoyed a buffet of cheese, biscuits and cakes.
