Hearts & Flowers: February at Woodlands

The residents have been enjoying yet another very busy month with a variety of activities throughout February with the theme “Hearts and Flowers”.  Here are just a few things the residents have been up to:

On Wednesday 1st February residents from Woodlands took a trip up to Hill House for entertainment by the singing duo Nev and Claire. They sang a variety of well-known old favorite songs accompanied by the guitar. Residents sang long and danced, and especially liked their rendition of the song “When father painted the parlour” which prompted much laughter whilst singing along. The afternoon was finished off perfectly with tea and homemade cakes.

It was a trip into Fleet for coffee and cake on Friday 3rd February where residents from Woodlands met up with other residents from our 2 other sister homes. After a leisurely stroll around the Hart Shopping Centre they all met up in their favorite café ‘More Than Coffee’ where they had a good old chat over tea and coffee and, of course, our usual slice of Victoria Sponge.

Our monthly ‘Singing for the Brain’ session was held at Hill House on Wednesday 8th February which is always one of the residents’ favorite trips. Residents from all three homes all joined together for a fun and interactive singing session by the lovely Barbara Raynor. It was another wonderful afternoon with a well-deserved cup of tea and coffee and piece of cake.

Friday 10th February was a very busy day for the residents with a trip to Badshot Lea Garden Centre in the morning. They enjoyed a lovely walk around looking at all the new spring flower tubs, and also took a look around the newly refurbished aquarium section. Residents loved looking at the very large variety of unusual and colorful fish. They all finished the morning in the café with a nice cup of tea and coffee and some yummy chocolate coated shortbread biscuits.

During the afternoon residents from all three homes joined together at Hill House for an early Valentine’s party with the wonderful Jonti Duo who provided the afternoon’s entertainment. The residents enjoyed an afternoon of singing and dancing to a great mixture of songs ranging from some Tom Jones classics to a bit of well-known rock and roll. It was a very lively and entertaining afternoon which all the residents really enjoyed especially the tea and cake at the end.

Residents from Hillbrow visited Woodlands on Wednesday 15th February for a special treat of singing by Toni Sue. She sang some well-known classic songs from the movies which the residents really enjoyed and they all loved singing and clapping along to.

On the morning of Friday 17th February, residents and relatives from all three homes met up in the Wyvern Pub. Residents enjoyed a very relaxed morning chatting over a drink and a packet of crisps, reminiscing about old stories before arriving back in time for a good old fish and chips lunch.

It was a trip out to Redfields Garden Centre on Friday 24th February, where residents enjoyed a look around the new spring flower display and of tubs and baskets. These included a wide variety of colorful primroses and narcissi; they then proceeded on to the café to meet up with residents from our other two homes. They all enjoyed a cup of tea and coffee, and biscuits together whilst chatting and sharing stories before heading back for lunch.
