“Rio Olympics 2016” at Woodlands
August was another busy and sunny month for our Residents with the theme “Rio Olympics 2016”. We have enjoyed some colourful, exciting activities and games to celebrate the Olympics. We have also been enjoying the better weather and have been out and about in our beautiful gardens, tending our vegetable garden, going for walks, reading and playing games with the staff. Here are just some of the things our Residents have been up to:
On Friday 5th August Residents from Woodlands and Hillbrow met up in their favourite local pub The Tweseldown. Residents enjoyed a lovely morning out chatting and laughing about some of the things they had been up to, which prompted some very interesting conversations!! After a nice relaxed drink we were back, in time for some fish and chips.
Our monthly session of ‘Singing for the Brain’ with Barbara Raynor was held at Hill House on Wednesday 10th August. Residents from all 3 homes joined together to enjoy a fun and friendly afternoon of music therapy, singing a wide variety of familiar and new songs. Our Residents really do enjoy these stimulating sessions and they are of such a huge benefit, they always return to Woodlands with massive smiles and still singing!
On Friday 12th August Residents from Woodlands and Hillbrow took a trip out to Redfield’s Garden Centre. Residents had a lovely relaxed morning walking around the flower conservatory looking at all the amazing array of colourful flowers. They really love to see all the different colours together. The great morning was finished off perfectly in the cafe with a nice cup of tea and some all butter biscuits.
As well as celebrating the Olympics, Residents have also been really busy in arts and crafts throughout the month, in preparation for their garden stall. As Woodlands are hosting the annual garden party on Saturday 17th September this year, Residents have been making items to sell on their stall. Residents from all three homes contribute to the stall every year and it is always really popular with families and friends as they love to see what the Residents have been making. All the money that is raised at the garden party goes to our wonderful charity “Families Supporting Care”, so Residents really think it’s great that they can get involved and help towards raising more funds.
We hope to see you all for loads of fun at the garden party, and more importantly don’t forget you get to throw wet sponges at some of the staff including management!!! You may want to bring your cheque book J
As well as the annual garden party to raise money for our charity, staff get up to all sorts throughout the year to continue to raise funds. On Friday 26th August Hill House hosted a “Zumba for Charity” event. A group of enthusiastic staff led by our Zumba expert Jay-Jay, took part in a Zumba session out in the main car park. It was a beautiful sunny day and lots of Residents came outside to enjoy the sunshine and the colourful array of costumes, well done to all who took part.
