Woodlands Activities for January
The Theme for January was “Welcome the new year Scottish Style” and has been a great start to the New Year by celebrating Burns Night and all things Scottish. Residents have been Reminiscing about the New Year and taking part in Scottish themed quizzes and activities.
Here are just a few things the residents have been up to during the month:
On Wednesday 6th January Residents took a trip up to Hill House for our monthly singing for the brain with Barbara Raynor. Residents really enjoy these sessions and really benefit not only from gentle exercise but from the enjoyment and well-being music provides. A great afternoon was had by all finishing off with a nice cup of tea and cake.
On Friday 8th January Woodlands and Hillbrow Residents took a trip into Fleet for a spot of shopping in the Hart Shopping Centre. This is always a popular trip and a chance for Residents to have a browse around the shops. It was a really lovely morning out ending the morning in the resident’s favourite café More Than Coffee for a nice hot chocolate and our usual slice of Victoria sponge.
Residents from all three of our homes joined together on Friday 15th January for a trip to Badshot Lea Garden Centre. Residents really like visiting this garden centre as they get the chance to see the outstanding aquatics department which has the largest selection of fish in the area, as well as the selection of smaller pets such as hamsters, rats, rabbits and guinea pigs. It was a really great morning out with all the Residents enjoying a drink and some nice biscuits in the wonderful Squires Café.
On Friday 22nd January Residents from Woodlands took a trip to the Tweseldown Pub and meet up with Residents from both Hillbrow and Hill House. It was a lovely morning sat in front of a roaring log fire with lots of laughing and chatter whilst enjoying a drink and a bag of crisps.
The Charity quiz night was held on Wednesday 27th January and saw teams from all three of our homes competing against each other. Teams were made up of Residents, their friends and families and staff and it was a really fun evening for a really great cause. The winners were a team aptly named “I don’t Know”! And together we raised £500 for our Charity “Families Supporting Care”. We would like to thank everyone who came and supported the evening and we look forward to the next one in April which will be held at Hill House.
Friday 29th January was our Scottish Celebration Party at Hill House. Residents from Woodlands, Hillbrow and Hill House joined together during the afternoon to celebrate Burns Night. It was a wonderful afternoon of all things Scottish; Residents enjoyed a Scottish Sword Dance, as well singing along to some well-known Scottish Songs such as Mull of Kintyre, Amazing grace, Auld Lang accompanied by Louis on the piano. The afternoon was finished perfectly by Residents enjoying a nice cup of tea and some traditional Scottish shortbread.
