December 2015 at Woodlands
December is as always one of the busiest months of the year with the run up to all the festive celebrations. During the month Residents have been really busy enjoying a wonderful array of Christmas activities, trips and some great entertainment.
Here are just a selection of some of things the Residents have been up to:
On Wednesday 2nd December Residents travelled to Hill House to enjoy a great afternoon of singing by the Camberley Rock Choir. The Residents always enjoy a performance by the Rock Choir especially when it includes some of our very own talented staff.
During the evening Residents were invited to the Church on the Heath, Elvetham Heath to enjoy the Fleet Lions Christmas Concert. Residents got the chance to listen to a fantastic selection of talented choirs and entertainers from the local community. It was a really lovely evening out which was made extra special by all the wonderful volunteers from The Fleet Lions. During the journey home our Driver treated the Residents to their very own tour of all the Fleet Christmas lights, which the Residents thought was absolutely magical.
Fleet Brownies visited the Residents on Tuesday 8th December to give a really special Christmas nativity. They performed their version of the traditional nativity with included some well-known Christmas songs that the Residents took great joy in singing along to. The Residents then presented the children with some well-earned chocolates to say thank you for entertaining them.
On Friday 11th December Residents took a trip up to Hill House for an afternoon Christmas musical concert performed by pupils from St Nicholas’ School. Residents loved listening to the young talented musicians who played their violins and flutes so wonderfully. Residents especially appreciate visits from our younger generation, and it is always great to see such good connections with the local communities.
Throughout the month Residents have also enjoyed Christmas Bingo, Cooking club, singing for the Brain, Christmas Poetry, A Christmas Service by the Kings Singers, Crondall Bell ringers, Christchurch Bell ringers, Christingle Service as well as a wonderful Christmas Staff Performance.
Residents from all three homes got together for a Christmas party on Tuesday December 15th at Hill House with great entertainment provided by the Jonti Duo. It was a really fun afternoon with lots of singing and plenty of dancing, finished off perfectly with a nice cup of tea and lots of mince pies.
Christmas Lunch was the order of the day on Wednesday 16th December, where Residents joined together to celebrate the festivities. They were also visited by a rather jolly Santa and his cheeky elf who presented all the Residents with a Christmas present.
The Fabulous Professor Andrew Knight joined Residents from all three homes including our Day Centre on Friday 18th December at Hill House. This is always one of the Residents favourite entertainers as the Professor has a real talent for not only playing a number of instruments so beautifully, but is absolutely amazing at engaging all of the Residents. All our Residents no matter what their abilities got the chance to take part in having lots of fun with all types of instruments and music.
During the evening Residents took part in a wonderful Christmas Carol Service performed by the Holy Trinity Church Choir. Residents sang along merrily to all the traditional carols and where joined after by the choir to share a glass of sherry and mince pie.
On Tuesday 22nd December Residents enjoyed Christmas Songs sung by Toni Sue. The Residents joined Toni Sue in singing along to some well-known Christmas classics as well as having loads of fun making their own music with some musical instruments’.
It was Christmas drinks all around on Wednesday 23rd December at the Residents favourite local The Tweseldown. All three of our homes joined together around the log fire to celebrate the occasion by pulling Christmas Crackers, telling jokes, and singing Christmas Carols.
Well what a busy month! This festive month was finally concluded by an early New Year’s Eve party on Wednesday 30th December. Residents enjoyed a great afternoon’s entertainment provided by Leanne who sang some good old fashioned songs that all the Residents enjoyed singing and dancing along to. They especially enjoyed joining in with all the Activities staff in acting out the song “Rudolph the Red nosed Reindeer”!! What a great way to welcome in the New Year.
Here’s looking forward to a brand New Year and all the exciting fun things our Residents will be doing in the year to come.
