Woodlands Activities in July
July has been yet another busy month with Residents taking part in a wide variety of activities, trips out, entertainment and celebrations. This month’s theme was “British Summer Holidays”, so Residents have been reminiscing about what they remember of past family summer holidays and talking about some of the places that they have visited. Here are just a few other things that the Residents have been up to.
On Friday 3rd July Woodlands held a Nepal fundraising afternoon to raise money for the British Red Cross Nepal Disaster fund. As some of our staff have been personally affected by this awful disaster we thought we would get together and do our bit to help out. Staff, Residents, their family and friends joined us for a Nepalese afternoon tea party and raffle. Our Nepalese staff all dressed up in their national dress and sang a beautiful Nepalese song to all the residents which was really moving. They then prepared some traditional Nepalese food for everyone to try. The afternoon was a great success and we raised £300 for the Red Cross Nepal fund. We would like to thank everyone that showed their continued support.
On Friday 10th July Residents from Woodlands and Hillbrow joined together for a trip to Fleet. Residents took a leisurely stroll through the shopping centre and did a spot of shopping, before finishing in their favourite café for a nice cup of tea and cake.
A trip out to our favourite local pub The Tweseldown was the order of the day on Friday 17th July. Residents from Woodlands and Hillbrow got together and had a chat over a drink and a packet of crisps. As usual it was a really lovely morning out, with plenty of talk about our up and coming seaside trip and some impromptu singing.
On Tuesday 21st July, we were visited by Christchurch Bell ringers who entertained Residents with a wonderful summer concert. Residents always enjoy listening to the wonderful sounds the bells make and enjoy singing along to some of the songs. A really lovely morning was had by all, we look forward to hearing the Christchurch Bell ringers again later in the year.
On Friday 24th July Residents took a trip up to Hill House for an afternoon of entertainment by Tony and his wonderful array of colourful jackets! Tony sang well known songs in keeping with our July theme of British summer holidays and did a few impressions too, the residents personal favourite was “Ernie the fastest milkman in the west”. Residents had a great afternoon singing along and dancing, finishing the afternoon with a well-earned cup of tea and piece of cake.
Thursday 30th July Staff, Residents, their families and friends from all three of our homes got together at Hill House for our “Families Supporting Care” Charity quiz night. As always it was a really fun night with lots of fun and laughter, all in aid of a really worthy cause. The night raised over £250 for our chairity so thank you very much to all those that came along on the night and showed their support.
We rounded off a really busy month on Friday 31st July with a trip to Redfield’s garden centre. Residents had a wonderful time looking around the garden centre with it wonderful array of flowers and tubs and stopped to have a browse at their large collection of books. We finished off the morning with a rather yummy cup of hot chocolate and a piece of lemon drizzle cake!
