Woodlands Activities for March
Residents have enjoyed yet another varied and interesting month of activities with the theme “Spring Month”. It has been a busy month celebrating not only the change in seasons with all the spring flowers beginning to bloom but also St David’s Day, St Patricks Day, and Mothering Sunday.
On Wednesday 4th March Residents visited Hill House for Singing for the Brain with Barbara Raynor. Barbara themed some of the songs around traditional Irish Folk songs to incorporate St Patrick as well as some of the residents favourites. The Residents really enjoy her singing sessions and it is great to see so many Residents from all three homes taking a very active part not only just singing along but enjoying doing the actions that accompany the songs.
Residents enjoyed a trip to Fleet on Friday 6th March, for a gentle stroll through the Hart shopping centre to do a spot of shopping. Residents also popped in to their favourite café to enjoy a nice cup of tea and a slice of Victoria sponge.
Friday 13th March Residents and staff dressed in red and took part in raising money for Red Nose Day, the day started with Residents and staff taking part in a fun Red Nose themed Quiz. In the afternoon we held a Red Nose tea party, with singing by Aimi, a red themed raffle as well as enjoying some wonderful cakes especially decorated by the residents. A great day was had by all and we managed to raise just over £100 for a really worthwhile cause.
Throughout the month Residents have also enjoyed many other activities which have included the Kings Singers, Jane the Beautician, Skittles, Dominoes, Poetry, Balloon Bounce and preparing their Easter Bonnets for our annual Easter Parade.
Tuesday 17th March Residents celebrated St Patricks Day by sampling an Irish themed lunch menu, which included Irish stew with Colcannon, followed by Irish Barmbrack washed down with a shot of Guinness. In the afternoon Residents took a trip out to Hill House for a St Patricks day afternoon party, with Irish themed music by Roger. On Friday 20th March Residents from Woodlands joined Residents from Hillbrow for a trip to Redfield’s Garden Centre to look at the wide range of spring flowers now coming into bloom. It was a really lovely morning out which was topped off perfectly by a nice cup of tea and a rather large chocolate chip cookie!
Wednesday March 25th we held a very special afternoon tea party for our Deputy Manager Deb. Deb has been promoted to Home Manager for Hillbrow, and although we are very sad to have to say goodbye from Woodlands we wish her all the luck in her new role. Deb has been an amazing addition to Woodlands and has always been a great support to both Staff and Residents. We will really miss her but hope that she pops back frequently to visit all of us. Residents and Staff presented her with some lovely cards and presents, as well as a picture made from jigsaw pieces for her new office that all the staff and Residents at Woodlands had painted.
Looking forward please remember our next charity quiz night to raise monies for our charity “Families Supporting Care” is being held at Woodlands on Thursday 23rd April at 7pm with the theme St Georges. Teams of 4 with a ticket price of £5 per person, including drinks, cakes and cheese and biscuits, tickets can be purchased at anyone of our three homes. Come along for a really fun evening and help us to raise money for our worthwhile Charity.
