Woodlands Activities for December 2014
December as usual was an extremely busy month getting prepared for the lead up to all the festive celebrations. Throughout the month our Residents have enjoyed a wide range of Christmas activities, trips and great entertainment, here are just some of the things they have been up to;
On Wednesday 3rd December Residents were invited to attend Fleet Lions Christmas Concert at The Church on the Heath, Elvetham Heath. Residents enjoyed a great evening out where they got the chance to listen to a variety of talented local community choirs. The highlight of the evening was provided by the Fleet Lions rendition of “Walking in the air” from the film The Snowman. Our Residents found their interpretation highly hilarious as well as their wonderful snowmen costumes.
Residents went out on Friday 5th December for a spot of last minute Christmas shopping in Fleet. They enjoyed a relaxing stroll through the shopping centre, admiring all the fabulous decorations and lights. We finished off a great morning in our favourite café with a nice cup of tea and a rather large mince pie.
On Monday 8th December Father Haydon held a truly wonderful Christingle afternoon Service. Residents took time making their Christingles, which prompted many heartfelt stories on how they used to make them “back in their day”. The afternoon concluded with the lighting of the Christingles, prayers and singing songs accompanied by Father Haydon on his guitar, one resident said it was “truly magical”.
Friday 12th December saw residents from all three homes come together for Christmas drinks at the Residents favourite local The Tweseldown Pub. It was a great morning of chatter, smiles and laughing with lots of impromptu singing of Christmas Carols. It was a really lovely morning sat around the log fire reminiscing about what Christmas meant to all of us, our favourite answer of the morning was “all the sherry and mince pies”!
Throughout the month Residents have also been busy decorating Christmas trees and Christmas cakes, and making table decorations. They have also been entertained by the Kings Singers, Music from Hospitals, Christchurch and Crondall Bellringers, as well as the staff and some of the residents families.
On Friday 19th December Residents enjoyed their wonderful Christmas Lunch, with a special visit from Santa and his elf and presents for all the Residents. The festive day was warmly concluded with a wonderful Christmas Carol Service by Holy Trinity Choir. Residents sang along merrily to all the traditional carols and where joined after by the choir to share a glass of sherry and mince pie.
The Fabulous Professor Andrew Knights joined Residents from all three homes including our Day Centre on Monday 22nd December at Hill House. The Professor is one of our Residents favourite entertainers because he really engages with everyone and encourages Residents of all abilities to have fun with music, singing and musical instruments, he never fails to bring so many smiles to all our Residents.
This very festive month concluded on Tuesday 30th December with a early New Years Eve Party. Residents enjoyed a great afternoon of music by Gareth from Mac Entertainment with lots of singing and dancing. It was a good old fashioned afternoon knees up, and a great way to say goodbye to 2014 and welcome 2015. Here’s looking forward to all the fun, exciting things our Residents will be doing throughout the coming Year.
