Spring Watch!

A few years ago we installed a couple of wired bird boxes in the gardens of Hill Brow and Woodlands, which are connected to televisions in the homes. There was lots of excitement from residents and staff about being able to watch our garden birds nesting and feeding their young!

We are pleased to report that at the beginning of May we had 12 chicks hatch, 8 Blue Tits at Hill Brow and 4 Great Tits at Woodlands.

The chicks are doing well and it’s wonderful to be able to see them so close up in the nests.

We hope to have more chicks next year!

Mrs Timms, a friend of one of our staff members, has made this wonderful piece of tapestry for Hill Brow. A lot of time and effort has gone into making this, and the residents are very impressed with the amazing attention to detail. Thank you from all the Residents at Hill Brow!

Dementia Day Care Centre Open 5 Days A Week

We are pleased to announce that as of Monday 28^th May our dementia day care centre will be open from Monday to Friday. Our opening times for stage specific formal care will be 10:00am till 2:00pm, and informal day care will be available for up to 10 hours per day. We are able to care for up to 20 visitors per day, and there has been a lot of interest shown by residents of Farnham, Fleet, Aldershot and Farnborough, with many relatives commenting about the shortage of good day care centres available in Surrey and Hampshire.

Visitors can be provided with breakfast, lunch and supper. Plus we offer a range of stage specific activities that visitors can join in.

Gardening Club

The residents at Hill House, Hill Brow and Woodlands have been busy planting runner beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers. They have also been planting summer bulbs, flowers and making up pots for the patios. All we need now is some sun!

St George’s Day Celebrations

We celebrated St George’s Day with an amateur performance acted out by our residents and staff at Hill House. The home was decorated with St George flags and bunting. Refreshments and cakes were served to make it a fun afternoon. Relatives of residents came across Surrey and Hampshire to enjoy the afternoon.

Weekly Visits From Our Physiotherapist

Helen our in house physiotherapist visits all 3 of our care homes in Farnham and Fleet once a week. On Mondays she treats the residents at Hill House, on Tuesdays she holds an exercise class at Hill Brow, and on Thursdays she visits Woodlands. The residents benefit from weekly physiotherapy as it helps them retain and sometimes even improve their mobility and health.

Helen also assesses the resident’s abilities and will advise on suitable mobility aids and exercises to help develop the resident’s mobility.

OPENING OF DEMENTIA DAY CARE CENTRE

We are pleased to announce the opening of our Dementia Day Care Centre at Hill House.

Initially the Day Centre will be open 3 days a week (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday), offering formal care from 10.00am till 2.00pm and informal flexible care for up to 10 hours. Later in the year we hope to open seven days a week.

The Day Centre can accommodate up to 20 people each day. Visitors are provided with lunch and a range of activities. We offer a home assessment prior to starting, so we are able to evaluate the person’s individual needs, abilities and interests.

There has been a lot of interest shown already from residents in Hartley Wintney, Odiham, Farnham and Fleet.

A VISIT FROM ST NICS SCHOOL

We were lucky enough to have another visit from a young group of school musicians last week. This time we enjoyed a concert by a violin group from St Nicholas’ School in Church Crookham.

They generously came to play for us at the start of their school holiday and told the Christmas story in readings and playing festive music.

There was an opportunity to sing along with the carols, leaving everyone with a true festive atmosphere.

The residents always enjoy seeing the young people and watching them perform and their concert was much appreciated and enjoyed by everyone.

UKULELE BAND CONCERT

Robert May School Ukelele Band

A group of musicians from the Robert May School in Odiham, came last week to entertain the residents. A competent band of young ukulele players, they were helped along by an excellent vocalist who sang first of all, some modern songs and folk music. They finished with a set of Christmas songs which the old people could sing along to.

What surprised and delighted everyone, was how interesting it was to hear familiar tunes played on instruments we’re not used to hearing these days. It is easy to see how the ukulele is becoming such a popular instrument once again.

Alison Lee thanked the students for coming and giving everyone such an entertaining and enjoyable concert.
